LIVING FOR GOD
"What is Truth?"
By Calvin and Lisa Wulf
Make level paths for your feet and take only ways that are firm. Prov. 4:26 (NIV)
Lacing up their jogging shoes, they hit the trail.
Sounds like youve got a real moral dilemma on your hands, he says between breaths. What will you do?
Dont know, replies his buddy, stepping up the pace. It's a tough situation. But I've got lots of options. I think Ill just do whatever feels right.
Sounds fine to me.
These conversations are all too common today. We are bombarded with, "If it feels good, do it." Or how about, "Anything is OK as long as we don't hurt anyone." Basically, if it works for us, we do it. But what about that age-old question, "What is truth?"
At first glance our attitude seems reasonable. After all, were independent people and we like making our own decisions. But our reasoning is flawed. If all choices are equal, then bad has the same value as good. Without a moral compass there is no direction. We search in vain for a firm path.
Consider the example of Jesus. When he walked among us his sole desire was to do the will of his Father. All of his actions and decisions were subjected to this test. How can we do less?
Tough moral decisions require Godly discernment. There IS a right way in every situation and it can be found through prayer and Gods written word. When you need wisdom, go to your Heavenly Father first. His ways are trustworthy and true.
Looking for direction? Consider these pointers:
· When making moral decisions, dont trust your feelings. Seek Godly advice.
· Evaluate your choices carefully. Are bad options being disguised as good?
· Run your decisions past God's word. It's your global positioning device.
Try this idea. Visualize an old fashioned scale. Put your moral options on one side and Gods word on the other. Is the scale in balance or askew? Ways that seem right to the human heart can lead to chaos. So avoid costly and tragic errors. Fix your eyes on the one true compass.
